What exactly is a Destination Wedding?
When a couple decides that they want to exchange their vows and celebrate their love in a dream location that they and their guests will have to travel to, they are deciding on a Destination Wedding. Destination weddings range from domestic locations like Las Vegas to more exotic locations like Fiji. These ceremonies often take place in tropical areas such as the Caribbean, Mexico, or Hawaii. Others decide to celebrate their wedding in Europe, South America, or a domestic seaside location. All of the wedding guests will travel to the destination and enjoy a long weekend - or an entire week - essentially on vacation while attending the wedding.

Why plan a Destination Wedding?

There are many reasons to choose a destination wedding and honestly, the number one reason is because it is more affordable than traditional weddings. Others find it to be an opportunity to create a special and lasting memory for both themselves and each of their wedding guests.  For others, a destination wedding provides more time for their friends and family to gather together and get to know each other than a traditional ceremony allows.  Often, when looking at a guest list, many people will have to travel from other states or countries any way. A destination wedding allows them to travel somewhere more exotic and memorable, where they can enjoy a relaxing vacation; as opposed to asking guests to book a flight and hotel in a less exciting hometown. More and more couples decide upon a destination wedding because their friends and family are from different areas of the country, and do not want to decide on one hometown for another, so they opt to go to a location that will, from now on, be somewhere special to each of them. Some couples are in love with the destination, and want to spend the most special day of their lives in their idea of paradise.
How far in advance should I plan my destination wedding?

This varies quite a bit and depends on both the location and number of guests you intend to have.  Additionally, it is important to give your guests more time to plan for this type of ceremony than may be required for a more traditional ceremony.  Although one to two months may be acceptable for a traditional wedding, we recommend at least 4-6 months for a destination wedding to allow them to get the time off and budget as needed. To get the time and date you want for your destination wedding, you should plan at least twelve month in advance or be willing to compromise.
